The first call for SEK EdTech Accelerator Lab was presented on December 15th in one of the key spots of entrepreneurship, in Campus Madrid by Google.
Since the official presentation of the Educational Institution SEK initiative under the South Summit, we haven’t stopped being the talk of the town in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Spain.
For some time the lack of vertical accelerators which can provide a better support for growing startups is discussed. SEK lab has covered a gap that existed in the education sector.
We validate the bases and the benefits of our accelerator with a reference community «Edupreneurs”, as we want to stand out. Our differentiating factor will be validating startups in our educational ecosystem, in our 9 international schools and the 5 faculties of the University Camilo José Cela.
The opening was in Campus Madrid, where we invited several media from the entrepreneur world to explain what SEK Lab is, what we seek and what we offer.
Jesús Torres, Director of Technology of Educational Institution SEK was our master of ceremonies. He stressed the importance of continually innovating in the educational institution and to do so relying on technology that is radically changing the way we learn.
Our guest star was Maria Benjumea, Founder of Startup Spain and the South Summit event, who noted the high percentage of education startups presented at the last edition of the event.
Next we presented a case of successful entrepreneurship performed by our students of bachillerato (pre-university level), which set up a club where young programmers teach kids outside their class schedule.
Next came two alumni entrepreneurs, a recent project PANGEA. Our old student Manuel Rivas is one of the headsmen thanks to the entrepreneurial pitch he had during his studies.
Another successful story is undoubtedly David Vega’s, CEO of Lexington Business Centers, the second company in Spain in a mature and competitive sector, such as business centers. Lexington was the first company in Spain established over 30 years ago and David, thanks to its international training in SEK, leads it with the goal of being the best in customer service, technology, flexibility.
Finally it was Felix Lopez Capel’s turn, the director of SEK Lab who emphasized the importance of the moment the startups are experiencing in education «edTech» with million dollar operations, not only in Silicon Valley. He gave the details about the SEK Lab acceleration program and also about the powerful network of mentors which it kickstarts with.
